Soler announced GM in NY

Posted by: Steve Punter | Comments (0)

SECAUCUS, N.J. — New York Red Bulls announced their new general manager and sporting director, Erik Soler at a press conference. The Norwegian will be quite busy and has to prove himself.

The Red Bulls had a really bad season this year, missing the playoffs for the first time since 2002.

According to Soler, he is a man who likes a challenge and we believe he certainly found one in New York.

Placido Polanco back to Phillies!

Posted by: Steve Punter | Comments (0)

p> Placido Polanco signed a contract with Philadelphia Phillies that includes a $5.5 million mutual option for 2013, according to baseball sources.

The 34-year-old infielder, Polanco, arrived in Philadelphia today morning to take a physical test.

Placido Polanco also played for the Phillies from 2002 to 2005. The player’s and the team’s mutual familiarity appeared to be a serious reason to reach the deal

Polanco has already won two Gold Gloves at second base since he was traded by the Phillies traded to Detroit, but he played about 95 games at third in Philadelphia.

However, he commented that he feels very comfortable playing third base.

Barcelona’s star, Argentinean Lionel Messi, is the winner of Ballon d”Or 2009 award, making him the first Argentinean to be crowned European Footballer of the Year.

Only 22 years old, he has been third in 2007 and second in 2008!

Messi won a record of 473 out of 480 total possible points, compared to 233 points out of 480 that Cristiano Ronaldo scored last year when he was the winner!

It was no surprise that Lionel Messi will be this year’s winner. His future looks brilliant!

USA’s World Cup Draw chances

Posted by: Steve Punter | Comments (0)

Friday the 4th of December 2009 is the big day for all teams that will participate in soccer World Cup 2010, next summer in South Africa.

It may happens only once every four years but World Cup is one of the biggest sports events on the planet.

However, tomorrow’s draw will decide which team plays against who in the group stage. USA’s soccer team just hopes will have to face an easy group with no experienced teams, rather than participating in a heavy group, also known as "Group of Death".

USA would like to avoid Brazil, Argentina, Spain and would prefer to face Slovakia, Honduras, North Korea and New Zealand that are less experienced.
