Betfair have been ploughing their labors into seizing the look of football enthusiasts flying into Vienna for the closing phases of Euro 2008 – by raising the planet’s principal ever billboard.

At practically one and a half kilometers long and covering a district of over 50 football arenas, Betfair has spent the preceding four months cultivating the memorandum ‘NO.1 FOR FOOTBALL AND STILL GROWING!’.

The Guinness Book of World Records™ as ‘The World’s Largest Advertising Hoarding’ has currently legitimately ratified it.

To put the sizes of 1,380m by 316m into perspective, its length is equivalent to laying the Empire State Building end-on-end three times, at the same time as the 436,000sqm it covers is 62 times bigger than London’s Trafalgar Square.

It’s estimated that over 1 million airline passengers will notice the billboard on their final loom to Vienna International Airport during June.

It took local planters from the Austrian town of Ebergassing four months – plus nine tones of wheat germ, 53,000 marigold plants, 1.5 kilometers of cotton netting in addition to rape, camomile, mustard, clover, poppies and grass - to produce the billboard.

The personal letters are 44 meters ‘high’ and up to 41 meters wide.
Adrian Murdock of Betfair whispered:

“We may not have a squad at Euro2008 save for there is at least some corner of a foreign ground that is mainly absolutely a piece of the UK – for a short while nevertheless.

The confined farmers thought it was a funny story when we first asked them about doing it, although the billboard became a true labor of love and at present they have a globe verification to show for their hard work.”
